I study the tax treatment of the family in the U.S. and the effects of taxation on marriage and labor supply.
My research considers three broad themes:
Taxation of same-sex couples in the U.S.
Tax policy interactions with gender
Tax policy and safety net program interactions
I use a causal inference and machine learning methods to quantify the economic impacts of the U.S. joint income tax system, highlighting how existing tax policy reinforces traditional gender norms surrounding labor supply and marriage decisions, either independently or through interactions with other programs.
I am an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at Tulane University and an IZA Research Fellow. I hold an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Economics from Wake Forest University.
